Day 9: There’s so much history behind the aesthetics of our hair

28 Days of Black History

 

For black people, hair is an integral part of our cultural identity. It’s more than strands and locs. Hair is our crown, affording us numerous ways to express ourselves. The history of styling techniques and head coverings originates in Africa and evolved in America.

A return to ancestral traditions and aesthetics have been prevalent for several years, as men and women become educated about the harms of chemical treatments and seek alternatives, while also embracing their natural hair.
