‘Make Justice a Reality’: MLK event returns to downtown Tyler on Monday

Tyler Together Race Relations Forum hosts its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration starting at 9 a.m. Monday on the Downtown Square. This year’s theme is “Make Justice a Reality.”

A march begins at 9:30 a.m., going from South Broadway to the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception at the corner of South Broadway and Front Street. A formal program begins at 10 a.m. at the cathedral.

Writer, minister, mother and strategic transformation consultant Rev. Frances Cudjoe Waters is the event’s keynote speaker. Waters is a Stanford University and Harvard Law School graduate who addresses real life issues that face her readers and listeners.

For the fourth year, Tyler Together will announce the winner of its annual MLK art contest during the program at the cathedral. Elementary and middle school students in the Tyler area participated and all art submissions are on display through Feb. 4 at the Tyler Public Library, 201 S. College Ave.
